Moving an OpenCart store to a new domain
We moved an OpenCart store to a new domain and hosting: full database dump, a test copy and checks on staging before the switch.
The task
The store had to move to a new domain and hosting without losing the catalogue or settings, and without breaking the live site during the move.
Before
- beforeA large catalogue and a database you can’t just copy and hope for the best.
- beforeAny mistake during the move meant broken links, photos or prices on the live site.
- beforeThere was no test environment to check the move in advance.
What we did
Made a full database dump — about 225 MB without orders — and a file archive.
Set up a test database and a copy of the site on the new hosting.
Updated the OpenCart config for the new domain and paths.
Checked the copy on staging: catalogue, categories, photos, filters, checkout.
Switched the domain to the new hosting only after those checks.
Results
- database moved in full
- ~225 MB
- everything checked on staging before the switch
- Copy first
- products, categories and photos in place
- Catalogue intact

301 and 404 cleanup for an IT company site
We went through 800+ rows of 301 and 404 reports: of 285 “broken” links only 24 were real. We fixed the rest without hosting or database access.
